Report on Sanitary Improvements in India

We wish to draw the particular attention of our readers to a volume which lias been recently issued from the India Office, entitled;?" Report on Measures adopted for Sanitary Improvements in India, from June 1869 to June 1870, together with Abstracts of Sanitary Reports for 1868, forwarded from Bengal, Madras, and Bombay." This is a sanitary multum in parvo, and should be in the hands of every medical officer in India. We shall take occasion from time to time to deport special subjects to our pages. Meantime, we shall give a short sketch of its contents for the information of our readers. It commences with a careful precis of sanitary proceedings; touching on cholera maps, hill stations, returns of mortality, cultivation of sun flower on marshes, emigration, sub-soil drainage, conservancy, quarantine, water analysis, cholera epidemics, fever epidemics, history of the native army, disposal of night soil, sanitary agencies, Peshawur dispensaries, &c., &c. Then follows a trenchant letter from Miss Nightingale, the burden of whose song is that much has been written, but little done. It
